Hi!!!! Sorry we haven't been on in a while, but school's almost out! We're gonna make TONS of sets over the summer!!
So I went to New York recently, and it was so amazing that I decided to create this for anyone who may be going there who needs some help. New York City is mostly on the island of Manhattan, but part of it is in Brooklyn. Here are a TON of things to do when you’re there:
1. Statue of Liberty!!! This may be one of the most famous things to do in New York!! Sadly, Liberty Island is closed right now due to damages from hurricane Sandy. It won’t open again until July, but there are still many boat tours that you can take to see the the Statue of Liberty, although you won’t actually be able to go on the island.
2. See a show on Broadway: When I was there, I saw Wicked and Phantom of the Opera. These are both amazing! I would recommend both of those, along with Newsies, Mamma Mia!, and Chicago. Seeing a Broadway show is a MUST in New York City.
3. New York City is home to the famous Fifth Avenue, containing some of the most famous designer brands in the world. On Fifth Avenue you will find Tiffany & Co. (Which you can take breakfast to and look in the windows if you want to recreate Breakfast at Tiffany’s), Coach, Calvin Klein, Saks Fifth Avenue, Godiva (NOT a clothes store, obviously, but chocolate is awesome), and SO many more!
4. Times square: it’s fun to just sit in Times Square and enjoy the scenery, but there are also many shopping and dining opportunities, including Forever 21 (it has FOUR floors!!), Aeropostale, Ray’s Pizza, Mac, and American Eagle Outfitters. There are lots of people who walk around times square wearing costumes that you can get pictures with. Don’t forget the naked cowboy/cowgirls or Woody and Buzz Lightyear!!
5. Take tours! Tours are a great way to see everything you want to see in a small amount of time. I’d recommend the GrayLine bus tours because you can get off the bus at one spot, do things there, and then you can get on the next bus with no extra charge because the buses come every half hour.
6. Empire State Building: Okay. Now who HASN’T heard of the Empire State Building??? For all you Whovians out there, you gotta remember that this is the place that the Daleks came and almost enslaved humanity. Go to the top of the Empire State building, thank the Doctor for saving us, then look at the beautiful view.
7. Central Park: You absolutely cannot go to New York City without seeing Central Park. It’s a great place to just sit and read a book, but there are so many other things to do there, too! It’s pretty much the only place on the island of Manhattan that actually has trees (I really hope this doesn’t offend anybody), and it has a really cute zoo. And who doesn’t love a zoo surrounded by a really big park surrounded by a lot of buildings?
8. Museums: If you’re visiting New York City, there is NO WAY you will have time to see all of the wonderful museums the city has to offer, so you’ll need to narrow it down to just a few. The first one I’d like to mention is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You could literally spend three whole days in this place and not see the whole of it. I only had two hours in it. I didn’t even scratch the surface. Other museums include the Museum of Natural History, and the Guggenheim. Please comment if you think I should add any more museums or if you have any corrections!
9. Go see any places you’ve ever wanted to see from your favorite movies/TV shows, or just any other places that have a spot in your heart. You can see Parsons, which is where Project Runway is filmed, you can see the cemetery where Amy and Rory died (which is located off the island of Manhattan toward La Quinta airport). Theres the Plaza hotel (which has played a role in MANY movies and TV shows), you can see where John Lennon was shot (I’m not QUITE sure where this is, but I know it’s somewhere closer to uptown), or you can see Trump Tower. A lot of celebrities have apartments or second homes in New York City, so you can see those, but don’t be stalker-ish and, like, look in the window or something.
So that’s all the things I can think of! You can also do some more tourist-y stuff like see the Brooklyn bridge but those are all the MAJOR things that require some description:)
Adios!!
